Look to Feel
I don’t know what it is about this t-shirt but it makes me smile. Maybe it’s the bright colors and inviting look of the aesthetic. In any case it reminds me that for some, perception can become reality.  Sometimes good products are poorly executed, but with a little change in look and feel, one’s outlook about a product can change.  WaMu once did it successfully in the banking sector, Wii...

Big Brand, Little Idea
Recently I was talking to a friend about the problem of Sobe’s LifeWater and it occurred me that the fundamental problem of the product is the brand. It’s not clear why someone should spend their money on the beverage with so many other brands out there with stronger propositions, most notably VitaminWater. Sobe seems to have taken the position of imitator not innovator. They have fallen into...

Truck Farm
The Truck Farm was conceived by Curt Ellis and Ian Cheney–filmmakers responsible for 2007’s King Corn. The two responded to frustration of the lack of farmable land in the city, particularly Brooklyn, and are now raising arugula, herbs and heirloom tomatoes and delivering them to all neighborhoods around the five boroughs. Check out the above trailer and episodes on their YouTube page....

Art Spaces in Dubai
The WO group in Dubai was introduced to two inspirational art spaces here in the city: Shelter and Traffic. Shelter is a community workspace, where small businesses and other creative talent have access to a work station, a brasserie, a cinema, a library, as well as an outdoor garden. Currently the space is open to the public, but beginning in the fall will require a membership....

Gatorade won't make me more of a man.
On my way to work every day I pass through the W4th St. subway station in New York, where I walk by an installation of Gatorade advertisements.  These images depict real athletes as they live some athletic moment of truth. This campaign accompanies Gatorade’s evolved design – a blocky “G” with a lightning bolt superimposed, and block CAPS on labels that scream messages that could have been written...

Target’s up&up clearly defies gravity (see video) and breaks with the conventions of a private label brand. Spreading good cheer in people and wallets since its launch in April 2009, it is now available at a Target near you. (Christian Butte)

The problem with professional
I just read Clay Shirky’s book – Here Comes Everybody. In it he makes a great point that being ‘professional’ brings with it an inherent bias and unwillingness to see change. He quotes the example of professional journalists missing the racist comments by former leader of the House Trent Lott, which eventually led to his resignation. For these journalists, it didn’t fit within their existing...

Staples City
Staples City reminds me that with care and consideration, ordinary things can become extraordinary. Brands are much the same way. Cultivate and be consistently persistent about enhancing your offer, promise and products, can often lead to better crafted  experiences. Imagine if Staples sponsored the artist by creating installations in all of its retail outlets. This could signal to customers...
